Who can temporarily import a vehicle into M&eacutexico?

  • Mexican Nationals legally residing abroad.
  • Foreign migratory visitors, local visitors, tourists, students and immigrants.

    What vehicles can be temporarily imported into M&eacutexico?

  • Any vehicle weighing up to 3 tons, including pick-up trucks & vans. RV's of all types and of any weight can also be imported.
  • Any of the above mentioned vehicles can be transported into M&eacutexico "piggy-back" style or in tow with the same permit issued.
  • This permit transaction can only be processed on the border entering M&eacutexico.
    Present copies of application of temporary vehicular importation and promise to return vehicle; submit the following documents in original and copy:

    Importers Document

    Foreigners: Must present proof of nationality, migratory form (FTM,FM2,FM3) owner's driver's license or other person driving vwhicle. Mexican residents residing abroad:
    Must present legal residency card, migratory form (FME) and owner's driver's license or other person driving vehicle.

    Vehicle Documentation

    Must present title or purchase invoice.
    If you are paying the car, present letter of creditor, or letter invoice from the financing ccompany, lease contract, letter establishing relationship between employee/driver and the company/owner of the vehicle.

    Guarantee:

    The following options may be taken for guaranteeing the temporary importation of a vehicle:

    1) International credit card

    Payment of the equivalent in Pesos to $10.00 US dollars plus current IVA (tax) as a guarantee in favor of the bank by means of an international credit card issued abroad whose account is held under the name of the person requesting the permit.

    2) Security Deposit

    Security deposit has to be submitted in the amount of the total value of the car to the Treasury Federation expedited through an authorized company in M&eacutexico.

    3) Investment Certificate

    Security deposit must be submitted in the ammount of the total value of the car which will be returned to the owner upon return of the vehicle to its country of origin. If you choose any of the last two options, you must pay the equivalent in Pesos of $10.00 U.S. dollars plus current IVA (tax) to Banjercito for the service provided.

    Driver

    1) Always carry your driver's license, proof of citizenship or travel permit and temporary vehicle permit.

    2) Do not sell or lend out your car; Also make sure to return your before the vehicle's permit expires, failure to do so may result in heavy fines/sanctions and or the confiscation of the vehicle. Remember: the temporary vehicle permit has a duration of 90 or 180 days upon issuance of the permit.
